Ermelo Outside Life
In Ermelo, too, you can enjoy the outdoors to the full. Ermelo, situated on the Veluwe, owes much to its green image. Without the Veluwe forests and heathland, Ermelo would never have become the touristy and attractive place that it is today. Camping De Haeghehorst is situated in the middle of this green, attractive environment. The strength of Ermelo goes beyond merely protecting nature and the landscape.
Green development
The strength of Ermelo lies in its green development: nature and landscape guide the further development of Ermelo. The landscape and ecological values are hard preconditions for this and form the so-called green underlay. De Haeghehorst maintains and develops its own woodlands by replanting each year. The immediate surroundings of De Haeghehorst are also kept clean.
Ermelosche Heide (heathland)
The Ermelosche Heide is about 380 hectares in size and is located between Staverden and Ermelo. The Ermelosche Heide is a beautiful open heath surrounded by deciduous forest, mixed forest and coniferous forest. Here you can also see burial mounds that are thousands of years old and one of the largest sheep pens in Gelderland, which consists of about 300 sheep. Stichting Schaperift Ermelo is a young organisation whose aims include maintaining the Ermelosche Heide by grazing sheep. Ardoer camping and bungalowpark De Haeghehorst is a sponsor of this foundation.
