Mountain biking
Beautiful forests, lovely moors and challenging sand drifts; the surroundings of De Haeghehorst are extremely well suited for exploring by mountain bike. There is a huge number of kilometres to discover! The mountain bike routes are marked with wooden posts with the international MTB sign. GPS-tracking is also available. De Haeghehorst is an official starting point for challenging mountain bike routes. Are you up to the challenge?
The Ermelo route is almost 24 kilometres long and very varied. Discover the Strokel forest and the Ermelosche heathland, where you can see burial mounds that are thousands of years old. You will also find one of the largest sheep pens in Gelderland, consisting of around 300 sheep. The mountain bike route in Harderwijk is about 21 kilometres long. Mountain bike through challenging curves and adventurous obstacles. You can even spot beautiful wild animals in the forest of Leuvenum. Have you become enthusiastic and would you like to explore both routes? That is possible! These routes can be easily linked so that you can ride a distance of 45 kilometres.
Prefer biking? Of course, you can also discover the beautiful diversity of the Veluwe by bike. Cycle through forests, past beautiful castles and old Hanseatic towns. Stop by the reception desk to pick up a booklet with 30 free cycling routes!
Watersports
Always wanted to learn how to surf? Within cycling distance of the campsite, you will find surf club Telstar Beach on Beach Horst: the water sports paradise where windsurfing, kitesurfing, wingsurfing and SUP'ing take centre stage. Here you can experience action and relaxation at the same time. This is one of the most popular surfing areas in the Netherlands and is also an official kite surfing zone.
Beach Horst
Thanks to its central location, shallow water and ideal position in most wind directions, Beach Horst is unprecedentedly popular. You can fill a whole day with the varied offer of water sports. The beach is the perfect place for beginning surfers because you can stand in the water almost anywhere. After surfing, enjoy the beautiful view over the water at the beach club while enjoying fruity drinks and fresh sandwiches.
Telstar Beach
At the surf club of Telstar Beach you can rent everything for a successful day of surfing. Think of windsurf boards, kitesurf sets, stand up paddle boards and more! The school is CWO and VDWS recognised and lessons (from 6 years) are given by qualified and enthusiastic instructors. They also regularly organise major events such as surfing competitions, test days, kite- and windsurfing clinics, parties and barbecues. In short, there is plenty to do at Telstar Beach!
Tip:
In the surroundings of De Haeghehorst, you will also find spectacular climbing forests such as Klimbos Harderwijk and Klimbos Garderen. Do you dare to go up?
